While this JET saw beats its closest competitor on price, it also offers some advantages in design and construction. A quick-connect electrical plug is right on the saw, so you can change blades without having to search out the wall socket every time. The saw's stand is made of a heavy-gauge metal, and features a hinged-motor cover and a 4-inch dust port for easy connection to a dust-collection system. The left-tilting arbor is another mark in this saw's favor. Tilting the blade away from the fence allows you to work without a sacrificial fence and reduces the risk of the piece binding under the blade. But this saw's most impressive feature is the smooth action of the blade's height-adjustment mechanism. Not only will users save their wrists and knuckles, but they'll also save time by cranking the blade to the exact height needed with fewer test runs for every rabbet, dado, tongue, and groove. Finally, we really appreciate the new micro-adjustable XACTA II fence that's included with this saw--a long awaited upgrade to a fence that's already popular for its accuracy. --Nancy Gleason
