Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Accurate, High Speed and Powerful Performance. Light, compact, 3.6V screwdriver easily converts from straight to pistol form for accurate drilling. A large rocker-switch conveniently placed within reach of your thumb changes drill or driving from forward or reverse. A two-speed gearbox offers 200 rpm in slow mode and 600 rpm in high mode as well as an auto shut-off, 22-stage clutch to prevent overtightening. Less Time Spent Waiting and More Time Spent Working. The 3.6V battery can be fully charged in 15 minutes (using the EY0225B charger), which means less time spent waiting and more time spent working.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT tool!   May 15, 2010

I repair copiers for a living, and have been using this screwdriver for over 6 years, every day, with no problems. This is my second Panasonic screwdriver, the first one was the 2.4 volt model, which I used for 3 years with no problems at all (i gave it to another tech when I upgraded to the 3.6 volt model. I like the 3.6 volt model better due to it's increased speed (600 rpm vs. 400 rpm) and I prefer the "auto-off" clutch which shuts the power off compared to the "click click click" style clutch on the 2.4 volt model. The overall length and weight on the 2.4 volt model is less, if that is a big concern. The only thing I have had to do to this 3.6 volt screwdriver, is replace the battery. The battery lasts for about 3 years, although it needs to be charged more frequently as it gets toward the end of it's life. This screwdriver is so much better than the cheaper ones some of the other techs use, and in the long run, it is no more expensive than their cheapies, which they replace about every 6 months. I have been using mine for over 6 years, and I am ordering a replacement battery for the second time, which should last until the screwdriver is almost 10 years old! I do think Panasonis is stretching it a bit to call this a "drill & driver", it is capable of drilling small hole in soft material, but thats about it. I also wouldn't recommend it for driving wood screws, it doesn't really have the torque for that, (I use my Bosch Li-ion drill/driver which is heavier, louder and slower, but has a lot more torque, for that kind of stuff), but for smaller machine screws like the one used in office equipment, it can't be beat.

1 out of 5 stars Bad information of product   April 23, 2010

When they sell world wide, and the AC voltage was not spesified, I thought the charger to the Panasonic drill & driver could be used worldwide with input 100-240V AC, as charger for small electronics normally are. This charger are only for 120V AC and useless. They could not change the charger to one with the right voltage for me.

4 out of 5 stars Agree that it is good but could be GREAT   December 13, 2009

I purchased from a local distributor about 5 years ago when it was cutting edge. I liked the 15 min coffee break charge time. It did not come with a case or any extras other than a charger. I think I paid about $120 then. It replaced the disposable Skill unit that goes for $30. Over the past 6 months I began to notice the battery just was not giving me the performance it used to. It seemed like it would spend 15 min in charger & 15 min out...this gets old when you use it a lot. The clutch worked well for my application, dialing up or down it did not over torque at any time or break any delicate material. I recently went with the new Makita because buying a replacement [Ni cad] battery was going to be about $40 and is quite outdated with lithium ion technology. The Makita came with a useful case [soft side, zipper] second battery, charger and some bits...yes I said bits! At about $70 delivered I would have been goofy to do otherwise. *read my Makita screwdriver review to learn more. So what did I do with my old one? I gave it to my soon-to-be retired father in law to use around the house, knowing him he will get years out of it!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best ever   November 22, 2008

I have been in electronics service for over 30 years, and our shops have always used these stick type screwdrivers. Products like Black and Decker, Skil, and Craftsman are not even close to being the caliber of
this Panasonic driver.

This is my 4th driver, and each one has been a steady improvement in features and power. I have been using it daily for about 5 years now. Having started out with the single speed Milwaukee, then the Milwaukee and Panasonic two speed 2.4 volt drivers,(which are identical), and now the 3.6 volt Panasonic, these are all truly bullet proof and proven Professional products. Our shops have been outfitted with hundreds of them over the years, and not one of them fail until they have been completely worn out from many years of daily abuse.

This model has been manufactured for many years, which is why it is still using Ni-Cd technology. But the rest of the features, such as the chuck, and the electronic clutch, are very modern. They work perfectly, and have been a big improvement over prior models, as has been the increase to 3.6 volts, enabling the speed to go to 600 rpm. I'm sure Panasonic will be updating it soon, but the lack of Li-Ion batteries is not that big of a deal.

Contrary to a prior comment, you do not want variable speed with a driver of this type. You would find that it actually would be a nuisance. The low speed high torque setting is great for that occasional tough job, or if you need delicate control.

It should be noted that this is not a driver for driving long screws into 2x4's. It is a precision tool that has a surprising amount of power for its size. But it is used primarily for electronics and similar light duty tasks. Pick the correct tool for the job. The 9.6 volt Ridgid is a good driver if you need more power.
