The Freud Difference
Freud manufactures some of the most innovative, technologically advanced saw blades in the world. To ensure that the highest quality products meet the toughest design standards, Freud owns and operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe. Freud is one of the few manufacturers of woodworking tools in the world that produces its own MicroGrain carbide with titanium, called TiCo -- a combination of titanium and cobalt. Freud develops different types of carbide for each application to maximize the cutting life and performance of the tool; and Freud also operates one of the most modern product development research centers in Europe. By overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, Freud guarantees some of the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry.

About Freud Industrial Blades
Freud's industrial series blades were designed for the serious woodworker. Available in a variety of styles for different applications, LU blades feature thick carbide tips, precision-tensioned bodies found in every Freud quality blade. Some LU blades include a red Teflon coating that helps reduce friction, heat build-up, and gumming -- which prolongs the life of the blade.

5 out of 5 stars Makes cutting effortless on contractor's saw   January 7, 2009
Mark Colan (Medford, MA USA)
Before buying this blade, I have mostly used a Delta combination blade (1/8" kerf, 50 tooth) and a Freud 60 tooth blade (3/32" kerf) for the past few years. The former came with my saw, the latter I bought thinking I always wanted ultra-smooth cuts. The need for a new blade came when I chipped off a tooth from the Freud 60 (so now it's a 59) courtesy an 18-gauge brad.

This blade was recommended to me by a Freud rep at a Woodcraft store one weekend. He listened to what I mostly do (lots of plywood, some pine and some hardwood, some 2x4s) and said I should give the LU83 a try.

I'm really glad I listened to his advice.

The blade is very quiet. There is almost no additional noise when I feed 3/4" MDF, and no apparent resistance - I don't have to push any harder to keep the same feed speed, and the blade does not seem to slow at all. The tired cliche applies: like a hot knife through butter.

I think the 60-tooth Freud gave slightly smoother cuts, but not so much that I care about it. The 60-tooth blade also had more of a tendency to scorch the wood and leave burn marks, sometimes made smoke (especially in re-sawing), but it probably needs to be sharpened. The others who have advised keeping a constant feed rate to avoid them with this blade are correct, and I think it may be true for any blade.

Rockler had a twenty dollar off coupon for purchases over fifty, so it was a deal and a half at thirty five. It is still worth getting at the Amazon price. I am very happy with the performance of this blade.

A good complement to this blade is one especially well suited to smooth cuts through laminated material or hardwood plywood, without tear-out.

See also my review on the 60 tooth Freud, to be posted shortly.

FYI I am a "weekend warrior" woodworker of nearly intermediate experience. My table saw gets a lot of use but on an irregular basis.

5 out of 5 stars Made a Huge Difference   January 6, 2009

Wow! I didn't realize how much of a difference a new saw blade would make. This one makes beautiful, smooth cuts and the blade is much quieter than my previous blade. I bought this to rip 1" boards into strips for building a kayak. It has done that and much more. I highly recommend this blade

5 out of 5 stars Great blade for a lesser-powered saw   April 28, 2008
John A. Cundiff (North Carolina)
I have been using this Freud thin kerf blade on a table saw that is not one of the big shop monsters. The thin kerf rips and crosscuts through most wood, including walnut and oak, without a drastic loss of rpms. And the cut is so smooth that it reduces time spent on edge finishing. If you have a smaller table saw, I think you will like this blade.

5 out of 5 stars Great Blade!   March 19, 2008
Michael A. Leyva (San Jose, CA)
I have bought several lower priced blades that claim they are just as good as mid to high end blades. This blade is my 2nd Freud blade. This is an outstanding blade for ripping and crosscutting. I have a nice grizzly z series contractors saw. I get splinter free cuts every time. I do use zero clearance inserts and a miter gauge with a fence with zero clearance, which adds to the cut quality. The cut surface is very smooth with no burns. No sanding needed in most cases. The price is right too. GO FOR IT!

5 out of 5 stars Freud LU83R010   March 5, 2008
Dan (Boston)
This blade is really great! I installed it on my Griz contractors saw after using a standard width blade for years. So far it has performed flawlessly. Although I have not cut through any 8/4 lumber yet it cut effortlessly through some 5/4 cherry. I am really happy with it so far. Also, because it is a thin kerf blade there is less wood waste. Looks like it is very well made. I also have the Freud Super Dato and that blade is one of the top rated blades. Good company - you can't go wrong with them.
